In the wake of 12/14, the Sandy Hook School PTA began to receive donations from schools, community groups, families and fellow parent / teacher organizations who wanted to help the Sandy Hook School community heal. To help manage that, the Connecticut PTSA set up the Sandy Hook Fund on behalf of the Sandy Hook School PTA. It was determined that all monetary donations would be used in accordance with both the donors’ intent – to help the Sandy Hook School community heal – and the National PTA’s purpose – to make every child’s potential a reality through the empowerment of families and communities.

The Sandy Hook School Foundation was established in the fall of 2013 as a nonprofit organization by the Sandy Hook School PTA Executive Board to distinguish itself as a separate entity from the Sandy Hook School PTA while still aligning with the National PTA's core mission. The Sandy Hook Fund has been transferred to the Sandy Hook School Foundation.

The mission of the Sandy Hook School Foundation is to support programs, resources and enrichment that can make a positive difference in our school community. The Sandy Hook School Foundation takes a broad view of the school community's long term academic, mental and physical health needs.
